OUTDATED, WILL BE UPDATED FOR @ZSL6Basic InfoThe @Z StarLeague is a tournament I've been occasionally running since 2009. This is the fifth @ZSL but the first that's been opened to all of Frostwolf, instead of just the regular @Z members. It's also the first since StarCraft II went retail. The tournament will be ran through this website, and recent updates are always listed on both
@Z's front page news and in
StarCraft forum. An @Z membership is not required, and you can join the tournament by filling
this short form.
Signups will close on Thursday (August 26th) at 6:00 PM Pacific/Frostwolf time. The tournament will be closed off to new participants once it has started.
All skill levels (or
lack of skill) are welcomed. Seriously, if you think you're bad don't worry. Most people in this tournament are going to be. Majority of the people will probably be Silver or Gold, but there's likely to be some Bronze and a couple Diamond as well.
As for prizes, I don't have the money for a big prize purse, but I'll keep in contact with the winner and get them something from BlizzCon this year.
StructureThis will be a league style "everyone plays everyone" type of tournament. You'll play each of your opponents three times (not a best of three). You get two points for each win, one point for each loss. Games that go unplayed do not give any points. So, it's better to lose three matches against someone than not playing them at all. At the end of the tournament, the top four players will replay each other for double or nothing (four points per win, zero for a loss). Whoever has the most points after that wins.
MapsWhen you sign up for the tournament you'll be asked to choose up to three maps from the 1v1 ladder pool. Whichever map gets the most votes will be used in the first game of every match. After that, loser selects the next map. Any Blizzard-made map may be used, so long as it's two-four players (and no novice maps).
SpectatorsThis is always a tough call to make. Watching people play can be almost as much fun as playing itself, and really goes a long way in making a bunch of 1v1s feel like a group activity. At the same time, it does open a few doors for cheating. So, spectators are allowed in games and will be set to spectator (not referee). If either player doesn't want any spectators, then their matches will be played without spectators (remember to save replays!) while the rest of us continue on with the next match.
Schedule & No ShowsStarting on August 26th, we'll meet up Thursday through Monday at 6:30 PM (Pacific/FWT), and then play until we can't do any more games with who is there. If you can't make some nights (like due to raid), that's fine. If you can never make any of the nights, then don't join. As I said, each night we'll play as many games as people are willing to do, and that we're able to do with who all we have online. I expect an average night to end around 10-11 PM. If you can only show up for part of the night, let me know that day and we'll try to get some of your games done while you're on.
This will go on for at least a couple weeks, though it really depends on how many people join the league. Obviously it'll take longer for a hundred people to play each other than it would for five people to. The tournament will end when everyone has played each other, or when people stop showing up.
Edit: Matches (the three games) will be played back-to-back. Because of this, tt's worth mentioning that with 12+ people not everyone will get to play every night. I will of course do my best to keep it even, like if you didn't get to play one night to get you in the next, and I won't have someone play two matches (six games) back-to-back. Again, we'll work with who we have on each night, but please be aware that it'll simply be impossible for all 12+ people to play each night.
